A note on our mission

What does an object
leave behind?

A doll, a piece of jewelry, a familiar keepsake. Our museum explores the idea that the things people treasure may retain a connection to their lives.

The collection has grown through private cases and objects entrusted to us by people seeking help. Other pieces came to us through donations and different circumstances.

We invite the curious to explore the reported experiences surrounding these objects—and to consider what they feel, see, or hear in their presence.

These are some of the museum’s most recognized objects, each with a history and reputation that has drawn significant public interest over the years. The collection currently holds more than 500 objects donated from around the world, each with its own history, reputation, and story waiting to be discovered. Liza

Liza came to the museum from Massachusetts. One night, we received a frantic call from a man repeatedly screaming, “Make it stop.” After calming him down, he claimed the doll was telling him to harm himself and others. He had tried throwing her away, but she unexpectedly returned to his doorstep.

After Liza was removed from his home, the activity stopped. Since arriving at the museum, she has lived up to her reputation, earning the title of “The Most Active Object” in the collection.

Jolene

This large clown doll came from a preschool in Connecticut. Soon after her arrival, children began having what appeared to be one-sided conversations with her. These interactions eventually took a darker turn, leaving several children emotionally disturbed by the things they claimed Jolene was telling them.

One morning, the owner discovered Jolene missing from her usual chair. She was found about ten feet away, surrounded by toys. After being returned to the chair, the same unexplained event happened again one week later. The museum was contacted that day to remove her. Jolene has since become a favorite among guests who view the collection.

The Ancestor Fire Mask

This authentic tribal mask was brought to the United States from Africa in the mid-1990s. It belonged to a New Orleans store owner whose ancestors reportedly used it during ceremonies. Traditionally, masks like this may serve as mediators between the living and the dead, with the wearer believed to embody the spirit or deity represented.

Thought to be a death mask, it was associated with unexplained campfire scents, visions of tribal dancing, shadow figures, and an overwhelming sense of intimidation. Since entering the museum, many visitors have reported experiencing these same phenomena.
